Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite broadcasting is the distribution of television and/or radio signals from high-powered geostationary satellites to small dish antennas and satellite receivers in homes across wide geographical areas. The available DTH broadcasting systems provide viewers with additional options for obtaining a diverse range of programming where local cable or off-air choice was previously limited or non-existent. Broadcasters can choose between a Free to Air (FTA) "open broadcast" or can incorporate an "encrypted" or scrambled technology in their systems to prevent non-paying customers from viewing their channels
